vitamins mineralsWhen I go to a restaurant I almost always order a small salad for a starter. I order salad for two different reasons. First of all I read somewhere that consuming salad before a meal can help ensure that we do not absorb as many calories. The second reason I eat salad is for the vitamins minerals and antioxidants.  Leafy greens, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, radishes, carrots and other common salad ingredients are rich in vitamins minerals but an article I read today made me realize that I had better be careful about ordering them in restaurants. This article talked about the calorific salads that some renowned food chains sell. The two worst dressings, according to this article, are creamy Caesar and honey mustard.  I never was a big honey mustard fan but I am partial to Caesar dressing. However I have no desire to coat my vitamins minerals filled salad with sugar and fat since that kind of defeats the purpose of eating healthily. From now on I will only use vinegar and olive oil dressing on my salad regardless of whether I order out or make it myself at home.
